I happened to catch a post on Greg Long’s Instagram this week about a pledge to take an active role in the plastic pandemic that is currently overtaking the world. As one of the world’s best big wave surfers, Greg has long been an ocean-advocate, supporting organizations like Sustainable Surf, Surfrider Foundation, and Wildcoast.
Parley for the Oceans “..is the space where creators, thinker, and leaders come together to raise awareness for the beauty and fragility of our oceans and collaborate on projects that can end their destruction.” They have engaged in a new initiative to encourage abatement of plastics in our daily lives. The pledge is simple, but will take vigilance: AVOID PLASTIC WHEREVER POSSIBLE, INTERCEPT PLASTIC WASTE, and REDESIGN THE PLASTIC ECONOMY
The heartbeat of the world, the light of my existence. The facilitator of life, and the wildest of dreams. It is my duty to protect the ocean so she can continue to invoke awe and wonder, and give life to all those who come after me. . Take the pledge for Parley AIR to protect our ocean and end plastic pollution together. Link in Bio. . Avoid. Intercept. Redesign . @parley.tv . #ParleyAIR . photo: @toddglaser
PARLEY A.I.R STRATEGY
Every second breath we take is generated by the oceans.
Parley for the Oceans vision statement:
Parley for the Oceans addresses major threats towards our oceans, the most important ecosystem of our planet.
We believe the power for change lies in the hands of the consumer – given he has a choice – and the power to shape this new consumer mindset lies in the hands of the creative industries.
Artists, musicians, actors, filmmakers, fashion designers, journalists, architects, product inventors, and scientists have the tools to mold the reality we live in and to develop alternative business models and ecologically sensible products to give us earthlings an alternative choice, an everyday option to change something.
To succeed, we need to find ways to synchronize the economic system of humankind with the ecosystem of nature. And make environmental protection fiscally lucrative for pacesetting major companies.
Parley has been created to accelerate a process of change that is already in progress. No other big movement in the history of humankind has developed faster than the environmental cause. We want to make sure we are fast enough to meet the ultimate deadline and turn the ship around before we lose a treasure we have only just started to explore and still don’t fully understand: the fantastic blue universe beneath us — The Oceans.
